Budget Hearing
The School District of Plum City will hold its annual budget hearing as required by state law. This hearing will take place at the same time and location as the annual meeting. The purpose of this event is to provide the community with a detailed review of the previous school year's expenditures and to offer residents and taxpayers an opportunity to comment on the proposed budget for the upcoming school year.
Annual Meeting
As required by state law, the School District of Plum City holds an annual meeting for all district residents. This meeting provides an important opportunity for the community to offer feedback and participate in key decisions about school district operations. All eligible district electors, including members of the school board, are invited to vote. The specific powers and responsibilities of this meeting are defined by state statute.
What Can Be Decided at the Annual Meeting?
The Annual Meeting gives residents within the School District of Plum City the authority to make key decisions regarding the financial and operational direction of the Plum City School District. This includes, but is not limited to, the following powers:
Financial & Budget
- Vote on the annual budget: Approve taxes for general school operations, transportation vehicles, and discharging any school district debts.
- Fund Capital Projects: Vote to create special funds for capital expansion or debt service related to buildings and sites.
- School Board Compensation: Set salaries for school board members and authorize reimbursement for travel expenses and loss of earnings.
Property & Facilities
- Authorize the purchase, lease, or condemnation of real estate and buildings for school purposes.
- Vote a tax to build, furnish, and maintain school buildings.
Operational Decisions
- Elect a temporary chairperson or clerk for the meeting.
- Provide direction to the school board on legal proceedings the district is involved in.
- Authorize the furnishing of textbooks and the provision of school lunches.
